MESO Digital Interiors developed and implemented a playback concept and developed a motion design for the EVO´s Dockside Crane in Offenbach.
The crane is a landmark in the former harbour area, and is prominently located between the A 661 motorway and the Main River. It is owned by the energy provider EVO (Energieversorgung Offenbach) and is in regular use for transporting coal into the power plant since 1902.
For this permanent installation the crane was equipped with 378 Traxon Monochrome Cold White Tubes, integrating around 36,000 LEDs.
After the initial concept of highlighting the cranes structural framework by HfG Offenbach, MESO Digital Interiors developed a software for superimposing simple graphical shapes on the structure. A vvvv-based mapping algorithm allowed for an easy control of all 36,000 LEDs two e:cue butlers connected via wireless LAN control the LEDs.
The project was opened during the Luminale 2010 and is on permanent display since then every day after sunset.
